Hi, I’m Stephen.

I’m the photographer behind Memories Reimagined, but the story behind that name actually started long before I began photographing people.

In 2019, I created Memories Reimagined as a creative editing business, turning photographs into things like cartoons, watercolor paintings, and pencil sketches. The idea was simple, I take a memory someone already had and reimagined it into something completely different. When I eventually expanded into photography in 2022, I decided to keep the name because I realized the idea still fit. I may be creating the photograph now instead of reimagining it afterward, but the goal has always been the same. My photographs are meant to preserve a memory, and my style is meant to reimagine that memory into artwork you'll enjoy for years to come in your home.

My photography background comes from a somewhat unconventional place. I've been working as a combat photographer in the Marine Corps since 2016. That experience has taken me to different places, put me in countless situations, and taught me to look for the moments that happen naturally rather than simply waiting for someone to pose perfectly.

That work has also earned me recognition within the Marine Corps, including 1st place in sports photography, 2nd place in photojournalism, and 2nd place in feature writing. While those awards mean a lot to me, what I value most is what they represent. Those experiences taught me to do more than simply make an image look good. They taught me to recognize a story, anticipate a moment, and find the photograph that communicates it.

That perspective is a big part of how I approach my sessions today. I like to start with intentional, guided poses so everyone can get comfortable in front of the camera. Once the pressure starts to disappear, we can loosen up and let the session become more natural. Some of my favorite images happen in that space between the poses. The laugh after a joke, the way someone looks at the person they love, or the moment a family simply forgets I'm there.

Because I'm still serving in the Marines, I've had to move and rebuild my photography business more than once. While that hasn't always been easy, it has given me the opportunity to photograph people and places across different communities and build a portfolio that spans far beyond one location. Today, I'm based in Jacksonville, NC and serve families, couples, and those celebrating life's biggest moments throughout the Carolina coast.

I'm a pretty laid-back person, and I want my sessions to feel that way. I take creating great photographs seriously, but I don't think the experience of making them should feel serious all the time. I want you to have fun, feel comfortable, and walk away with photographs that actually feel like you.

At the end of the day, that's what Memories Reimagined means to me. I'm not just trying to give you a collection of nice pictures. I'm trying to create something you'll look at years from now and remember exactly how that moment felt.
